Master Cinematic 3D Concepts
If you don’t understand the fundamentals of 3D animation—how to light a scene properly, create a dynamic composition, direct purposeful camera moves, or tell a compelling story—the render engine you use won’t matter. It’s not about how good the render engine is, it’s about how good the artist is! Lights, Camera, Render will unlock the ability to create a beautiful render every time by teaching concepts such as lighting, camera movement, and how to develop your eye to think more like a digital director of photography.
Meet your classmates and dive straight into the action as David teaches you how to create an amazing cyberpunk scene from scratch! Lighting, texturing, camera settings, advanced scatter systems! You’ll be flooded with knowledge and inspiration to create your own futuristic city scene that will act as a benchmark to see where your skills are currently. You’ll also get the chance to explore the over 1,000 assets you can use for the course.
The render engine you use doesn’t matter if you don’t have a solid understanding of compositional techniques. In this first week, you’ll be immersed in compositional theory, learning about all the things that contribute to creating beautiful compositions. You’ll learn how composition and shot progression can tell compelling stories and learn how to storyboarding like a pro. These are fundamental concepts you’ll apply to every single work you make in the future no matter what software you use!
It’s lighting week! Lighting can make or break a render and this week you’ll learn how to masterfully light a scene and understand how not only lights, but shadows, can contribute to creating stunning renders. If that wasn’t enough, you’ll also learn how to build up and light a realistic nature scene from scratch. You’ll be amazed with how quickly you’re renders will improve!
This week is a “focus week”, a chance to catch up on course work and material. You’ll also learn about VDBs and how high quality assets can contribute to high quality renders.
This week is a masterclass in camera moves and you’ll gain the confidence you need to start animating cameras to become your own digital Director of Photography! You’ll learn all about cameras and how to tell a compelling story through camera moves. David will breakdown films, introduce you to important terminology, and show you camera animation techniques as you gain a deep understanding of how to be a storyteller. All building up to you learning how to create continuity through shots to build your own gorgeous and captivating animated title sequences!
Time to make a short film! This week you’ll learn helpful tips and techniques that along with your new 3D skills and knowledge will help you to complete your final short film project. This is going to be one tough test, but you got this!
The final 2 weeks of class are Extended Critique. You can use this time to catch up, complete your final project, then turn it in for critique.
